Marco’s founder, Pasquale “Pat” Giammarco moved to the U.S. from Italy with his family at age nine. Among the most precious possessions the family brought with them were the secrets of great Italian cooking so it’s not surprising the Giammarco’s promptly opened a pizzeria. As a child, working in the family business, young Pat was well schooled in the family art of making authentic Italian pizza.

In 1978, Pat put this invaluable education to work, opening the first Marco’s Pizza store in Toledo Ohio. Staying true to the family tradition of using only the finest, freshest ingredients and a secret sauce recipe Pat developed and refined with his father, Marco’s quickly became the local favorite. Today, Marco’s pizza is still made the same authentic Italian way.

Dough is made fresh daily in each store. Dough is the foundation of a great pizza. There’s none better than Marco’s. It is made fresh from scratch every morning right in the store. Marco’s never uses short cuts like mass manufacturing dough and shipping it to the stores. Or Worse! Shipping the dough to the stores frozen the way some large chains do.

Marco’s sauce is one of a kind. It’s still the same secret recipe developed by Pat and his father using a special blend of imported spices and three types of vine-ripened tomatoes. Consistent with Pat’s insistence for quality, the tomatoes go from vine to sauce in less than 8 hours. That’s fresh!

Marco’s cheese is always fresh. Never frozen. The big pizza chains buy their cheese frozen and then ship it to the stores. That’s something Marco’s would never do. And while most chains use only mozzarella we use a special blend of three cheeses for a taste that’s truly satisfying and undeniably authentic Italian.

Over the years, as the business grew the menu grew too. We now also feature baked subs, CheezyBread, salads, chicken wings, boneless chicken wings, and CinnaSquares. Marco’s Pizza’s continued impressive growth in both same-store sales and total number of units is proof that every item on the menu lives up to our founder’s strict quality standards. There’s no doubt our customer’s appreciate our dedication to doing things in the authentic Italian way. They’ve made Marco’s the fastest growing pizza company in the country.
